The solution to high inflation and poor economic growth is basic economics 102. Cut taxes, reduce government regulations and cut government spending. This will cause a recession while also lowering inflation. Economic growth will increase over the long-term at a pace that will outgrow stagnation (not taking the aforementioned actions) despite the short-term recession.
Carney has a PhD in economic so he knows this. The fact he won't do it means he doesn't care about the economy. His strategy is basically to take on more debt and hope that he's so efficient at allocating the funds that he can grow the economy such that higher interest rates don't lead to a recession. I'm not making this assumption of his up either, it's literally what his Value(s) book illustrates. This is flawed thinking though. It's the exact same kind of thinking early Communists had (like Marx/Lenin/Trotsky era Communists). The thinking is that a smart guy in power can allocate resources better than a "free" (only needs to be somewhat free-ish) market. It has never worked. Even with AI, it won't work. The flaw is thinking that the people who allocate funds in a market economy may do so inefficiently but they don't. For each little bubble of wealth, the funds are allocated efficiently as it pertains to that group which leads to a significantly better overall outcome than having 1 technocrat determine everything.
Carney is using the USA as a scapegoat for his own faults. Trudeau never had this "Trump/America" scapegoat so everyone eventually turned on Trudeau. Carney is a little more cunning.
I don't know if you guys understand how frustrating it is for someone like me who is high IQ and educated in economics/finance. Politicians talk like Canada's economic situation is outside our control and everyone believes it. This couldn't be further from the truth. If I had power, I could fix our economy and balance the budget in 5 years, no problem. What's being done to our economy is deliberate. There's no excuse for it. Yet, it's frustrating because no one believes me. I once had an economics professor tell me economics was a solved problem but politics wasn't. It's very true.
