Sadly, I'm not the head of the Bank of Canada. Canada faces high inflation and poor economic growth. Monetary policy can't solve this problem.

The solution to high inflation and poor economic growth is basic economics 102. Cut taxes, reduce government regulations and cut government spending. This will cause a recession while also lowering inflation. Economic growth will increase over the long-term at a pace that will outgrow stagnation (not taking the aforementioned actions) despite the short-term recession.

Carney has a PhD in economic so he knows this. The fact he won't do it means he doesn't care about the economy. His strategy is basically to take on more debt and hope that he's so efficient at allocating the funds that he can grow the economy such that higher interest rates don't lead to a recession. I'm not making this assumption of his up either, it's literally what his Value(s) book illustrates. This is flawed thinking though. It's the exact same kind of thinking early Communists had (like Marx/Lenin/Trotsky era Communists). The thinking is that a smart guy in power can allocate resources better than a "free" (only needs to be somewhat free-ish) market. It has never worked. Even with AI, it won't work. The flaw is thinking that the people who allocate funds in a market economy may do so inefficiently but they don't. For each little bubble of wealth, the funds are allocated efficiently as it pertains to that group which leads to a significantly better overall outcome than having 1 technocrat determine everything.

Carney is using the USA as a scapegoat for his own faults. Trudeau never had this "Trump/America" scapegoat so everyone eventually turned on Trudeau. Carney is a little more cunning.

I don't know if you guys understand how frustrating it is for someone like me who is high IQ and educated in economics/finance. Politicians talk like Canada's economic situation is outside our control and everyone believes it. This couldn't be further from the truth. If I had power, I could fix our economy and balance the budget in 5 years, no problem. What's being done to our economy is deliberate. There's no excuse for it. Yet, it's frustrating because no one believes me. I once had an economics professor tell me economics was a solved problem but politics wasn't. It's very true.

No. The solution to a bad growth profile is to raise the quality of a country's human capital to allow for more innovation. Canada is terminally screwed because it has chosen a poor human capital profile which is only going to get worse over time. We cannot bounce back on this trajectory, because the poor human capital cannot support anything other than being a terminally underdeveloped country

You could cut taxes in Bangladesh to null, it would still be Bangladesh 150 years later with the exact same slums.

You can't innovate if you're taxed too much. You can't innovate if there's too many regulations. You won't innovate if you get paid just enough to survive.

It's all tied together. Obviously, Bangledesh has a hard cap on capability cause genetics.

we have talked about this. It's the mental cancer of inclusion culture from merely mixing together two different peoples which is causing the great stiflement.

All of Canada's long run problems revolve around the woke immigrant replacement culture the elites decided to bring in. You cannot innovate as long as it persists, the new Canadians are highly unlikely to innovate, and if we don't we are not going to be a first world country because the rest will catch up with us.

China is doing perfectly fine as an oppressive, state driven colossus because their genetic and societal metrics outperform today's debased whites. The problem is not economic, it is genetic and applied sociobiological policy. The Chinese also coincidentally recognize the reality of race, genetics, and human biodiversity and have been striving to achieve what they call population quality. Which is eugenics by another name. God forbid they actually reach the prize of human designer genetics and render everyone in this room a dinosaur, which is a technology they are now leading in.

Obviously China's standards must be strict, otherwise they would never go on to become one of the world's leading great powers as is today highly likely. If they had followed degenerate neoliberalism and undercut the biological foundation of their population in favor of lassiez-faire, they'd be a shithole has-been riven with class tensions, with declining fertility metrics and replacer hindus coming in by the boatload like all of todays western world.

Really, have a think. The soviets never innovated but they never experienced the complete ethnic and social degeneracy we are now seeing. Their state promoted traditional family values and subsidized good breeding, and consequentially never felt the demographic winter quite as hard. Not unlike germany in the 30's with their phenomenally effective family policy combining economic and social pressures to reverse the fertility winter.

Of course, as you see here the moment they liberalized and began the western mode of economics their population began to winter. Statism is based and the human herd is a strategic resource, so we're hardly going to get anywhere cutting all those things to zero again.
