A pivotal night for Quebec and Canada. CTVNews.ca has special live coverage as voters shape the next chapter.

CTV News projects the Parti Québécois will form the next government in Quebec.

In a major upset for the ruling Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) party, the Parti Québécois (PQ) is shaking up the political landscape in Quebec.

The party hasn’t been in power since 2014 and its leader, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, has vowed to hold a third referendum on Quebec sovereignty in his first term.

With 127 seats up for grabs, a party would need 64 seats to form a majority.

They said they’ll wait until Trump is gone. We’ve got two years to wait, but that’s actually smart because the federal liberals and media they can’t use Trump as a bogeyman at that point. With this happening, plus BC looking like the NDP could lose, Carney probably won’t risk calling an election unless he absolutely needs a Hail Mary. He may say fuck it and go all out.

No referendum, now... Could still eventually get one. I could see Alberta's vote failing, then PQ gets a majority in the next election and they vote to leave which is successful then after they succeed, Alberta tries again and succeeds.

Honestly I could see a few people crossing over to the party in Quebec.

They got enough seats that the federal liberals will give them a shit ton of handouts though.
