Aurora Naomi La Fey, 31, was arrested in the city of Manaus, and claimed to have been suffering hallucinations after smoking cannabis.

The victim remains in a serious condition after surgeons had to remove both of his eyes due to the horrific injuries he suffered.

Detective Cicero Tulio said his face was bitten during the struggle, causing the loss of both ears.

Investigators are now probing whether parts of his ears were swallowed.

Fingers were allegedly pushed into his eye sockets, causing injuries that permanently destroyed his sight.

The victim may have also been sexually assaulted after losing consciousness during the attack, investigators said.

La Fey denied rape during questioning, but police said they are awaiting forensic results to confirm the allegation.

After regaining consciousness, the victim reportedly fled towards the balcony despite being unable to see.

He fell onto the roof of a neighbouring property in Manaus’ Planalto neighbourhood, where firefighters and paramedics rescued him.

Emergency crews rushed him to the city’s Joao Lucio Hospital after the attack at around 1pm on Tuesday.

La Fey told investigators the pair had known each other for around five years.

Resentment had reportedly built up because he did not accept that La Fey was a transgender woman.

The suspect‘s mum also told police that the pair had a difficult relationship, but did not report any previous violence between them.

La Fey allegedly claimed to have smoked “particularly potent” cannabis that morning, claiming it caused hallucinations later in the day.

The suspect admitted to waiting inside the man’s apartment while he was out, police said.

La Fey claimed to have been only wearing a towel when the victim arrived, ambushing him as he entered.

The suspect claimed to not remember the full sequence of events, but recalled biting his face before fleeing after the attack.

Cícero said: “We are dealing with an episode of extreme violence, in which the victim was attacked inside his own home and suffered exceptionally serious injuries.

“The investigation was treated as a priority from the outset, allowing us to identify the suspect and seek a warrant for her detention, which was subsequently granted by the judiciary.”

La Fey could face charges of rape and attempted murder, with alleged aggravating factors including cruelty and circumstances that hindered the victim’s ability to defend himself.

The suspect had been due to appear before a judge for a custody hearing before the attack.
