I see the transient homeless everywhere these days

Van dwellers. It used to be a hippy, alternative lifestyle thing to save money and live with a limited income temporarily. Now their population has grown substantively and it's simply upscale homelessness for people who have jobs.

In my local district, their numbers have exploded. There are now signs everywhere advising areas are not to be camped in. Driving out into lesser traveled parts of the city you can see large numbers encamped on the side of the road. These being areas where even a few years ago around the time of covid, no one was around at all. On the highways, if you sit and watch you'll probably see over 100 a day simply commuting about.

It's the little signs of decay that count. Canada is on the decline so steeply, that working people are choosing to live as near homeless because of the cost of rent. A new kind of tent city.
