Well, it’s pretty easy to tell from a few posts, but I made the jump to the U.S. I got pretty lucky. My house sold to the first person who looked at it, and I got near asking price, just $3,000 under what I was asking. I got one of those PODS to move all my shit.
I left Canada on August 6th. It was a long ass, multiple day drive, and most of that shit was through the damn desert. Luckily, I had a Starlink Mini in the car, so I had full internet the whole way, because if your ass had an issue out there, you’d be fucked. There’s no way in hell you’d get cell service for most of that drive.
So Virginia is fucking odd. The traffic here is goddamn insane. People drive like they’re crazy, and the roads are fucking insane and confusing as shit.
As far as prices go, I’m not going to lie. Most things are basically the same. Not just similar, but the same dollar amount, except in U.S. dollars. So moving here, you’re not going to save a shit ton of money on the cost of living. I’ve seen a lot of people say it’s cheaper in the U.S. Yeah, no, it’s not.
Now milk, cheese, chicken and butter? Yeah, there’s a big difference there. I can get five large chicken breasts for $10 U.S. Most other items are about the same price or even more once you factor in the exchange rate.
Houses are odd. You can tell entire groups of houses were built around the same time. If you want a smaller house, it’s probably going to be older. Anything built in the 2010s seems to be fucking huge, like damn near 3,000 square feet. So yeah, I had to get a house that’s about 2,800 square feet with a basement. It’s like, shit, I don’t need all that, but it’s pretty much that or some old ass house that’s not in great shape, unless you get lucky and find one that has been completely redone.
So far, this place is odd. I’m still getting used to the different areas and neighborhoods around here. I’m learning which areas I like and which ones I’d rather avoid, because some parts are definitely full of niggers. I’ve found that if I shop in certain areas, I’m much more comfortable and don’t have to deal with niggers I’m trying to avoid.
Will I like it more than where I was? No idea. Truth be told, the area I lived in Calgary was really nice. I had no debt, my house was paid off, and I had no real worries until the government started maybe coming my way. So it does suck going from having all that to now taking on $380,000 U.S. in house debt. But I can probably pay that off in around three years, and after that I may move again. I’m not going to lie, I’m not crazy about Virginia so far.
I don’t see Alberta voting to go its own way, so no doubt once that fails, the federal government is going to come down hard on Alberta to remind them who the bosses are. So I figured I may as well leave while I can.
As for the people, there are definitely some areas where you got more niggers than others. So far, most of the people I’ve actually interacted with have been friendly and perfectly fine even the blacks. I’ve hardly had to deal with many people from India at all, except at the 7-Eleven next to the hotel. I went there twice and, fuck, it reminded me why I left Canada. The experience was worse than what I was used to dealing with in Canada they seem even dumber here.
I did have to deal with RBC too. I called them twice, and goddamn, I had to deal with customer service representatives in India. They did what needed to be done, but after everything I went through getting my money moved across the border, I’m just fucking tired of dealing with RBC and this Indian shit.
I called TD Bank, which is also here in the U.S., and I got Americans on the phone. Everything was straightforward, so I decided I’m moving all my stuff out of RBC and into TD. Fuck RBC. I was with TD before I left Canada, but I had to use RBC for the cross-border stuff, so now that I’m settled here, I’m moving everything to TD.
So time to see if grass is greener here.
