Opinion Poll Ai 5 years from now

I was trying to envision what life might be like 5 years from now as AI advances and integrates into life.

What do you think the future with AI will look like?

Futuristic or dystopian?

I've always liked the idea of star trek saying "Computer, scan the planet for class b blah blah" or having an Ironman "Jarvis" system that could augment your life personally but still in a limited physical way. I think there can be good AIs, I just wonder about how much power to give them.

I know the AI robots are coming. You'll lease them like a car. You'll own nothing. Suscription treadmill.

Wondering your thoughts on how Ai will play out over the next 5 years.

I figure there would be personal Ai that can protect you from other invasive Ai. Just need to know how to set it up. Internet would merely be a marketplace and you wouldn't even need to go on the internet as you'd have a strong Ai in your pocket.

Have you read Peter F Hamilton novels - many of his books anticipate this very thing. Everyone has a unique personal AI assistant to navigate the internet and daily tasks/interactions/transactions ..... the more money you have, the better AI assistant you can deploy.

@mozzer: I recently watched a (highly disturbing) Quebecois movie called "Red Rooms" from 2023 in which one of the main characters is affluent enough to have created a personalized offline AI in order to be able to interact online while at the same time hiding her evil proclivities from the rest of the world. Interesting concept

@mozzer right now the quality.of ai you can deploy is based on how.much disk space and compute power you can dedicate to it, which I guess essentially equates to money spent, at least for a 'private offline' system

Other kinds of AI, particularly ones that rely on image recognition, are on more stable grounds. For example, detecting pavement defects, weeds, forestry application. Unfortunately image recognition can also be used for surveillance.

AI will render the Internet and everything on it unusable. Won't be able to tell what is real or fake unless it happens in front of your face, maybe. Probably screw over the surveillance program in the long run with too much junk data.

I think most countries will have implemented a biometric/digital ID system, required to participate in everyday transactions, using public transit, going to public events (concerts, sports, etc). There will be an increasing divide between those who accept this system and those who try to live outside of it (through self sufficient means, bartering, black market, etc), and those who resist this digital/biometric beast system will be ostracized and demonized. Many people will fall into poverty

AI will be utilized for surveillance and mass data gathering, but it won't turn into a Terminator type situation....that said, it will still result in the dumbing down of the populace overall, and be used to further agenda-driven narratives by combatting "misinformation".
