Alberta considering leaving the CPP? A new pension plan could mean big financial gains. It's time to take control of our future

this idea has been kicked around for quite some time now. You have people ideologically opposed because they seem to think that the government in Ottawa isn't on the brink of insolvency. Meanwhile, Alberta has oil resources that could fund this.

Ironically, if this were to happen, the 'APP' would be the only program still able to pay out 10 years from now, while the federal government is running on fumes financially.

Feds are using cpp to build homes for the mmmgrants and then giving them free money. They think that the rent money will feed back positive dollars to the fund but when you give money to the mmmgrants and they earn nothing this isnt going to happen

Liberals are a special kind of retards

I'm in finance. Finance degree from UofA. I have a CFA and FRM designation. I understand the numbers regarding the pension plan better than anyone.

Alberta stands to gain big time with Canada losing out if Alberta leaves the CPP and starts an APP. There is no doubt about this except there's one small problem. There's no legal mechanism or precedent for a province leaving the CPP and it is quite likely that the federal government will punish Alberta for leaving. The federal government can do this by basically not allocating to Albertans what would actually be fair regarding what Albertans have already paid into the CPP.

IMO, the best way to implement an APP is to setup an APP for Albertans that have paid nothing into the CPP yet (the kids). Instead of paying into the CPP, young people pay into the APP. Then eventually in 80 years, there won't be any Albertans with a CPP but Albertans who've already paid into the CPP continue to pay into it normally. This will make it very difficult, optically, for the federal government to punish Albertans for leaving the CPP and it alleviates all the concern from people who don't understand anything that are worried about what will happen to their pension if Alberta leaves the CPP. These people will continue paying into the CPP and will never leave it so nothing will happen to them.
