Tomorrow, June 9, 2026, is Tax Freedom Day. This date marks the day of the year when Canadians start working for themselves instead of working to pay taxes!

Key findings:

  • If Canadians paid their annual taxes up front, they would work the first 158 days of the year just for taxes.
  • In 2026, the average family will pay $72,539 in taxes, which is 43.5% of their annual income (based on an average family income of $166,790)
  • Saskatchewan observes the earliest TFD on May 20, while Quebec will celebrate later, on June 27.
Tax Freedom Day helps put the total tax burden on Canadians into perspective. It is up to Canadians to decide whether or not they're getting their money's worth. Read more here – and be sure to share it on social media!

Funny thing is whenever I go to the store they still charge me tax. Have they heard about this?
