Council wants to expand program for those limited by licensing requirements

...anyone driving a motorized vehicle on public roads has to have a valid licence.
“They’re not going to change the Motor Vehicle Act for golf carts,” he said. “You have to have a driver’s licence if you’re going to drive a motorized vehicle on the highway, and the roads in town are all considered highways.”
That didn’t deter council from exploring other options though, primarily implementing a licence specifically to operate a golf cart.
“You’d still be the holder of a valid driver’s licence, but you can restrict a person to just drive a golf cart,” he said. “It’d probably be easier to get it done by putting a restriction on there than having to implement a different driver’s licence.”
“It’s like the opposite of the graduated licensing program – we’re doing the restrictions on the licensing program on the opposite end,” she pointed out. “So I think it’s a good point… it’s worth asking.”
Kids with no driving experience can ride motorized bicycles, scooters, unicycles, and skateboards on the roads. Jeets with no license can ride mopeds and scooters on the roads. But white seniors with over 50 years of driving experience? No, you can't ride a golf cart on the road.“We haven’t had one accident with the golf carts, so it never hurts to explore.”
