Newcomer girls in Ottawa are celebrating their new-found hockey skills at an end-of-season tournament, just as the Ottawa Charge prepares to take to the ice for the women's team's first-ever playoff game Thursday.

My heart is warmed; how bout yours? Thanks, CBC!

I’m always saddened to be reminded that we’ve brought this treatment of girls and women to our country and blessed it since “it’s their culture”. It is reprehensible to see girls conditioned in a “free” country to wear hijabs and knowing that if they refuse they face “honour” killing or violence.

But it is nice to see these poor children get away from their fathers and other modesty enforcers for a while and do something that’s fun and integrates them a bit into Canadian culture.

Of course the coach doesn’t look like someone I’d put in charge of children.

Is this the CBCs new cultural subversion project?

Like Little Mosque on the Prairie?
